Two woodies and a ball of yarn will still be active in my household, but my blog will be inactive. I'm saying good-bye to all my readers and saying thank-you for stopping by, reading and leaving comments from time to time. It's been great getting to know fellow knitters through the blog, but I just don't have enough time to devote to it.
I'll still be dropping by your blogs so keep on bloggin'!
Once again, thanks for stopping by and reading.

The Short Vacation
One week is just not enough time for a vacation, but it was a nice little break from work. To celebrate the beginning of my vacation, the girls at work gave me this...

A marguerita pitcher with pom-poms for the great race. But before beginning the race, (what race? hold on, I'll get to that), Mr. Effer and I helped our Big Guy move into a house with 5 other guys. Yep, outta the college dorm and into a house. What a scarry thought! It is a typical rental home for college students. It came equipped with cases of empty beer bottles, a broken window and wires/cables taped to the floor running in all different directions so that everyone is connected to the outside world. And not to mention personal remnants from the previous tennants. But whatta ya gonna do? The kid thinks he's grown up enough to take care of himself.

And because I was in the Buffalo, NY area, I had to visit the Wooly Lamb yarn shop in East Aurora, NY, and make a purchase. So I bought a few Addi Turbo needles and this book.

Handknit Style by Linden Ward and Beryl Hiatt is a bit pricey for the amount of patterns in the book. But I liked the layout of the book, some of the patterns and just thought I needed to add to my knitting library. And of course, it would give me something to read if I got tired of knitting on the way home.
Now one cannot go to East Aurora and not visit the dimestore - Vidlers 5 and 10.

Going to Vidlers is a trip down memory lane. The store has all kinds of junk from jax to army men to fake dog poop.... things that were around in my childhood. I thought a lot about my brother and tried to talk Mr. Effer into buying cap guns but he just wouldn't cave. Do you remember the smell of a cap gun? I just thought it would be fun to run around the house and shoot each other. Afterall, we do have plastic swords.
Now getting back to that race-thing. Mr. Effer and I particpated in the Green Grand Prix in Watkins Glen. This was a green race, a race for hybrid cars and vehicles with alternative fuel systems, so we drove my 2001 Toyota Prius, which was the oldest Prius in the race.

We attended some lectures on alternative fuel systems, and gee do I want a hydrogen powered car. If I remember correctly, we averaged 53.4 miles per gallon on the race, which was more of a road rally than a race, around Seneca Lake and through Watkins Glen. We didn't hang around for the awards, and we're not even sure if we won anything. Hopefully they'll update their website soon and we can find out how we did in the race.

Think Green.... not just for spring.... but for our environment!
