Shhh! Don't Tell The Kids!!!

Last night Susan and I went on a journey to Medina, NY, to meet someone very special, Lynne. We were in awe when we found out that we were invited to her house for a Holiday Knitapalooza. If you don't know Lynne, then you may wonder why we are so inspired. So take a few minutes and visit her blog, I Was Knit Together In My Mother's Womb, and you'll experience a breath of fresh air. Not only does she give me knitspiration but through her blog I am always reminded how special every day is. (I know I just ended a sentence with a preposition, and there will be more, but what the heck!) Lynne's house and garden exude warmth and beauty.

Well, you might be wondering why I titled this post, "Shhh! Don't Tell The Kids!!!" Last night I did what I always tell my kids to never, never, never do: I went to someone's house that I met online through blogging. Susan and I left Baldwinsville around 4:00 p.m. and arrived at Lynne's house around 6:30, after a few wrong turns, a few extra miles, and a lot of laughs. But the journey was well worth it to meet Lynne and her wonderful knitting family. It was a very diverse group of knitters making socks, sweaters, dolls, etc. I think the oldest member was 84 years young and the youngest girl knitting was 19 years old. The food was wonderful, and I must mention that the stromboli was to die for! Who made the stromboli??? I really would love to learn to make it, but I think I need a cooking lesson or two.

We brought gifts to exchange at the party, and I came home with this:

Yea, baby, it's mine, all mine. I had to listen to Susan whine about it all the way home. She even tried to swipe it when I dropped her off at her house!

We met a few other bloggers: Leslie and Chris.

And of course, we met Moses. I wanted to take him home with me. He is such an adorable lab and wanted to be in the center of things.

There is no better time than when knitters get together with food, drink and lots of laughter. What a wonderful way to end the year with a new circle of friends!

Thanks, Lynne! Now you'll have to make the trip to B'ville sometime for some knitting.

Too Much of The Good Stuff!!!

Working the day after Christmas really sucked!!! I thought we wouldn't be vey busy, but I think all the elderly population in Syracuse had TOO MUCH HAM!!!! Damn ham! That's all I could say on December 26th. The nursing unit I work on was hard hit with elderly people in congestive heart failure.

I couldn't believe that in a 12-hour shift, I alone had five new admissions, all with congestive heart failure. When I asked what they had for Christmas dinner, they all replied "HAM!"

Ham is high in salt, which in turn makes one want to drink lots of water or some other beverage leading to fluid overload; hence, congestive heart failure is always abundant after the Christmas holiday.

I had hoped for a quiet day at the hospital. You know, maybe an assignment of only five patients leaving quite a bit of time to sit on my but and eat chocolate. Well it didn't happen. We were quite busy and never even got a break for lunch or dinner.

Oh by the way, we had a delicious HoneyBaked Ham for Christmas dinner! I hope everyone's Christmas was wonderful!
