Meet Simon!

This great nephew sure is a little cutie! I'm knitting him a hooded cardigan, which is my August stashbusting project.

Isn't he a doll?!? I just think he is adorable. I told my sister that next year when she comes to visit, she has to bring Simon along with Robert and Grace. I can't wait to see him. He is just so chubby and cute. I love fat flintstone feet on toddlers!

I'm hoping that the second picture of Simon (the one where he is dressed as a mouse) was taken on Halloween. I know he didn't come out of Angela with ears like that!

The third picture is my daughter, Kristen, and Simon. They are both adorable!

All the little cuties (Robert, Grace and Simon) live in St. Louis. I do miss them. I think Simon and Robert are going to be party animals. Grace is a little more reserved; maybe that's the "little lady" in her. Shucks! I never had any "lady" in me. I cuss like a cabdriver, drink like a sailor, and every once in a while crave a cigar and enjoy a "pull this" joke!

Whaz wong wit me? But the guys all think I'm fun!!!!

KnitterBug

I 'm home alone this week as my husband and Scott are in St. Louis visiting family. I have become a kitterbug, littering knitting crap throughout the house. When I looked around the house this morning, I couldn't believe what a mess I had made. I can't even blame it on anyone else because Sammy doesn't knit.

And here's the family room...

and the messy kitchen table...

I'm too ashamed to show a picture of my dining room, which looks like hurricane Emily just blew through. The dining room table is covered end to end with yarn, needles, patterns and other accessories. I'm definitely challenged in the area of organization. Dan (DH) doesn't tolerate clutter very well, so I typically keep things picked up. However, when he's away, I get totally out of control. There's been no flylady routines this week, just knit and drop; I'll pick up and clean the day he's due to return! I work better under pressure.

I haven't even cooked since he's been gone. My sustenance has been frozen meals, girl scout cookies and peanut butter along with a few alcoholic beverages. Gosh I love "ME TIME!"

I'm out of Lay's potato chips, and I feel a midnight run coming on! Kate, you got any chips over your way?

Toodles!!!

I Need a New Skin

I just clicked onto my blog to write a new post, and gawd the background color is just too dark for me. I tried it for a while but now I think I need a new skin. So I better start looking around and experimenting with different colors. I guess my next blog design will be #4 in less than a year. Most of the ready-made blog templates seem too bright or too dark or too mundane.

I think I need to contact my nephew, Brad, and ask (beg) him to design a website for me. So Brad, if you are reading my blog, which I highly doubt that you are, start thinking of a design for me. PLEASE!

Wow! I've Been Tagged!

Today I was tagged by Lisa B. So beware it's a long post.

10 Years Ago: I was working nights as a nurse, so the kids would not need after school child care. They would come home and wake me up. Gee, that was a miserable time! I never had enough sleep.

5 Years Ago: I bought my Toyota Prius. It's a hybrid (runs with gas and electric). No, it doesn't need to be plugged in!

1 Year Ago: Dan (my husband) and I took a mini-vacation to Pennsylvania, visiting Lancaster County, where there is a great deal of Amish farms, etc. I just loved the antique shops and the covered bridges in that area. We had a map of all the covered bridges and I just had to take pictures of all of them. (The film has never been developed!)

Yesterday: Susan and I took a short trip to Oswego, NY, to Northwind Yarn and Weaving. I bought 8 skeins of yarn and a sweater pattern for my great-nephew, Robert. Stashbusting just isn't working for me yet. I have good moments and then I don't know what happens. I would have bought more but then I would have had to arm wrestle Susan as she grabbed from the sale bin first! Damn she's good.

Today: It was a sweltering 90 degrees, so Sammy and I took a late afternoon dip in the pool. He is such a bad dog!

Tomorrow: Work, knitting and a dip in the pool.

5 Snacks I Enjoy: Lays potato chips (I can't eat just one!), Symphony Bar (I love chocolate!), Girl Scout Cookies (all varieties), 3 Muskateers Bar (chocolate again!), and green & red peppers with ranch dip. At least there's something healthy on my list.

5 Bands/Singers That I Know the Lyrics to Most of Their Songs: Beatles (I don't know why but I can still sing most of their tunes!), Beach Boys. Gee, I better stop, I'm showing my age. I don't think I know most of the lyrics to a band that's popular right now! It's strange, though, I don't listen to oldies on the radio.

Things I would do with $1,000,000: This depends. Is this before or after taxes? Let's assume it's AFTER taxes. I would take enough money to start an awesome yarn shop and then give the rest to my husband. He's better with money than I am. He would probably invest it and watch it grow.

5 Locations I would Love to Runaway to: Bora Bora, New Zealand, Fiji Islands, Mexico City, Peru.

5 Bad Habits I Have: (1) I am the biggest litter bug in the house, dropping crap everywhere I go. I always leave a trail of yarn, patterns and needles everywhere. (2) Cursing would be another bad habit. I don't know why but the words just seem to slip out all of the time. (3) Squeezing the toothpaste from the middle of the tube instead of from the end. My husband reminds me of this bad habit. (4) Procrastinating when it comes to housework. I'd rather be knitting. (5) And last, but not least, I have a bad habit of knitting a sweater and then taking two months or more to finish the darn thing. I don't like seaming and weaving in the ends. So if I had a million bucks, I would hire someone to do my finishing! Wow, that was super easy to list 5 bad habits!

5 Things I Like Doing: Knitting, drinking raspberry coladas and mudslides, reading, spending time with loverboy, which would be my husband, and we'll just call it snuggling, yarn shopping, attending wool/fiber festivals.

5 Things I Would Never Wear: (1) Thong - I just don't know how these young girls do it. (2) Bikini. (3) Daisy Dukes. (4) A moo-moo. Do you remember those? I think my mom might have had one. (5) I would definitely not wear anything white with black or colorful undergarments. I see too many nurses everyday that wear white pants with black undies or polka dots. Trashy!

5 TV Shows That I Like: (1) Survivor, (2) Sex and the City. I was so disappointed when that went off the air. (3) Desperate Housewives. (4)
Squawk Box on CNBC. I like to know in the morning how they think the market (stock market) is going to open. (5) I like to watch something at the end of the day on CNBC to see how the market closed. Did I make money or lose money for the day?

5 Movies I Like: (1) Message in a Bottle. I was glad Kevin Costner's character died at the end of the movie. He belonged with Catherine (his first wife) and not the bimbo that chased him. (2) Good Morning Vietnam. I think the photography was great in this picture. (3) Good Will Hunting. (4) Wind Talkers with Nicholas Cage. (5) Pee Wee's Big Adventure. I still love Pee Wee Herman.

5 Famous People I Would Like to Meet: I would love to have met all of the Beatles, Princess Diana, Mother Theresa, Benjamin Franklin (because I still don't understand the concept of electricity), and my husband's great-grandpa, William Frentzel. It's odd that I can't think of a living famous person that I would like to meet.

5 Biggest Joys at the Moment: My family: husband, 2 children, sammy the dog, and the twins (my great niece and nephew). I guess that's six, but I'm counting the twins as one, since they are a set! I'm very proud of my children and what they've accomplished to date along with their current aspirations.

5 Favorite Toys: Water guns, pea shooters, rubber bands, ball winder and yarn swift.

Well that was fun, although I did have to momentarily put on a "thinking cap!"

Susan and Kate, tag you're it!

The Stash!

I recently took a picture of the majority of my stash. However, I was remiss and forgot about some additional yarns: 22 skeins of Sirdar, 8 skeins of Magnum Chunky, 6 skeins of Buttons DK, and 6 skeins of various sock yarns, all of which are stored in a plastic container under my bed. My closet has been bursting at the seams, so I had to start a small stash under the bed.

I think you all know the feeling of an uncontrollable stash. Susan is very familiar with the feeling. Her stash is also out of control.

That's why I joined Stashbusters. Yep, they are going to help keep me in check. Each month I am going to knit something from my stash. This past month I finished a Sirdar pullover for Grace and used 6 skeins from my stash. Yea! Yippe! I'm also finishing another sweater, and I have a sweater on the needles. All projects are being knitted from my stash. I'm hoping to decrease my stash by at least 12 skeins this month. Happy Knitting!

Yes, It's Finished!

I've spent this past week finishing a sweater that I knitted for my great-niece, Grace. It was knitted using Denim Sport Aran yarn; the pattern is Sirdar #4108. I just loooove this sweater. It's a tunic type sweater; hence, it's longer than most sweaters, and the sides of the sweater have a small slit. I really enjoyed knitting this pattern; it's the finishing that always kills me and I drag it out for weeks on end. However, Erin described to me how much she loves finishing sweaters and seeing how well they come together. So I "attacked" this with a different attitude Saturday night, and it really helped. Thanks, Erin!

A Sweater for Grace.

The Pattern: Sirdar 4108

Can I go swimming today? Pretty Please....

A Funny Story

As I was downloading pictures from my camera, I ran across this picture of my sister, Debbie, and I just have to tell you the story behind it. So beware.... there is no knitting content here. However, there is a funny story.

As we were waiting in line at Journey Behind the Falls in Niagara Falls, Canada, Debbie needed to use the ladies room. We were in a very long line and were finally nearing the elevator to take us to the tunnels, when Debbie darted out of line to a bathroom. Shortly after she entered the bathroom we (and most of the people waiting in line) realized she went into the men's room. So as she came out of the men's room, we snapped this picture of her. She was so embarrassed, and everyone was laughing at her.

Oops! That was the men's room!
